LEWISTON – The Central Maine Medical Center Rotating Art Gallery is hosting three photographers during July: John Galgano of Poland Spring and Joanne and Joe Julias of Topsham.
Galgano, a resident of Poland Spring, is sharing photographs from his travels throughout New England. Galgano started learning photography in 1973 while in high school. His teacher elevated his education by taking him to night courses at New York’s Stony Brook College. Galgano attended the Art Institute of Boston after graduating from high school.
There is a wide variety of subjects in the 42 photographs on display. Galgano and his wife, Joanne, love to travel and are avid gardeners. There are photos of animals, flowers, people, places and some crazy things. Galgano feels photography is all about sharing.
Julias and her husband, Joe, share a love of photography and travel. They have traveled all over the United States and Europe. Both have their own field of interest in photography.
Julias said her husband loves to shoot lighthouses and seascapes, and he plans to photograph every lighthouse in Maine and the New England area. She shoots florals, architecture and everyday life. Their photos have been on display at several restaurants in the Portland, Brunswick and Falmouth area.
Julias said her husband’s photo, “Queen Mary II with Portland Head Light,” was featured in the Light House Depot catalogue for the year in 2005. Her photo, “Solitude,” won honorable mention at the Bath Heritage Days Art in the Park in 2005. Photos are available at art shows, some restaurants and by phone at JJ Photos, 725-6803.
The gallery is sponsored by the Woman’s Hospital Association. For more information about the association, call the hospital gift shop at 795-2295.
