WOODSTOCK – Due to a scheduling conflict, the Whitman Memorial Library program with Jim Sysko will start at 1 p.m., not 2, on Thursday, May 8. It is the last program before the summer break.

Nancy Willard will offer a class on tai chi and other stretches at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 22. The free class is appropriate for all ages.

The library is celebrating its 100th birthday this year. The board of trustees and other community volunteers are planning two special events. On Memorial Day, May 26, an open house will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. A collage of photos of the library and of the town from the past will be on display. Those who have pictures or newspaper clippings to share should contact a board member: Jane Mills, Sonya Davis, Ed Howe, Stacy Millet or Marta Clements.

Materials could also be dropped off at the library on Tuesday or Thursday afternoons or at the town office any weekday. A book, “Reunion of Teachers and Scholars of Woodstock,” has been donated.

On Columbus Day, Oct. 13, a gala birthday party will be held for the library. Pony rides and old-fashioned games will be offered for the children. The library will be open for all.

A few new books have been added to the collection: “The Sunroom,” “October Song” and “The Prodigal,” Beverly Lewis; “The Kite Runner” and “A Thousand Splendid Suns,” Khaled Hossein; “Almost There,” Nuala Faolain; “Garden Spells,” Sarah Allen; “Amish Grace,” L. Weaver; “Icebound,” Dr. Jerri Nielsen; “Halfway to Forever,” “Waiting for Morning” and “A Moment of Weakness,” Karen Kingsbury; “World Without End,” Ken Follett; “Plain Truth” and “Change of Heart,” Jodi Picoult; “A New Earth,” Eckhart Tolle; and “The Giving Tree,” Shel Silverstein.

There is no cost for out-of-town residents to use the library. All are welcome.
