AUBURN – A free YardScaping class is being offered from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at the Auburn City Building, 60 Court St.

YardScaping is a statewide effort to inspire Maine residents to maintain their yards for the safety of children, pets and the environment by reducing the use of fertilizers, insecticides and herbicides.

Attendees will learn about alternative chemical-free practices that can be utilized right away. The class is based on classes that have been offered by the Cumberland County Soil and Water Conservation District.

Having worked and been trained by the Cumberland County SWCD, the Androscoggin Valley Soil and Water Conservation District is bringing the class to Androscoggin and Sagadahoc counties.

To attend the class, preregistration is required by Tuesday, May 6, to ensure that ample informational material will be on hand. The class is limited to 25 participants; however, if enough interest is demonstrated, another class will be scheduled in the near future.

Registration may be made by calling the district at 753-9400, ext. 3, or by going to that location at 254 Goddard Road, Lewiston.
