LEWISTON – Spring migratory birds and spring wildflowers will be the focus of two events sponsored by the Stanton Bird Club this week.

A Spring Bird Walk Series is being held every Tuesday from April 22 through May 20. The April 22 event is an easy walk along the Bates College campus and through Riverside Cemetery.

The group will meet at Hathorne Hall on the campus at 6 a.m. The walk will continue until 8:30, but participants will be free to leave at any time.

The birds the group hopes to see include several varieties of warblers and sparrows along with more common residents such as chickadees and finches. Some less common birds such as bald eagles have also been spotted on past trips.

The annual Spring Wildflower Exploration will take place Saturday, April 26. Spring ephemeral flowers will be the focus for the easy walk through the Thorncrag Nature Sanctuary.

The group will meet at the Thorncrag parking lot on Montello Street at 9 a.m. and will continue until 11 a.m. Flowers seen in past years include wood and rue anemone, trout lily and mayflowers.
