LEWISTON – The Planet Cheer All-Star Cheerleaders celebrated a competition weekend filled with high honors. The multi-national teams recently attended the New England Cheer Association’s annual all-star cheer competition at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston.
The competition hosted more than 125 teams representing more than 50 gyms from all over the east coast.
Planet Cheer’s youth level 2 team competed against eight teams and took home a third-place trophy. Planet Cheer junior level 3, senior level 2, senior level 4 and co-ed open level 6 teams scored first-place wins in their respective divisions, with each division containing several competitors.
In addition to the high placements, Planet Cheers’ cumulative score earned them a second-place finish in the top gym competition. The special award is handed out to the top three gyms of the day and is determined by averaging the highest four scores of each gym.
Planet Cheer competed against 13 other gyms that qualified, with some sending up to 14 teams in an effort to earn the top gym honor.
Along with two more competitions this season, Planet Cheer will host its annual Friends and Family Day on Sunday, May 18, at Lewiston High School. For more information, visit www.fortierfamilycheercenter.com.
