FARMINGTON – The Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District, the Maine Forest Service and the Upper Kennebec Branch of Small Landowners Association of Maine are offering training on the use of Global Positioning Systems for landowners and outdoor enthusiasts from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 22, at the Roberts Learning Center, Room C23, University of Maine at Farmington.
Registration deadline is Friday, May 16.
For those that can’t make it to the May 22 training, another session will be held on Friday, May 30, at the Somerset County Cooperative Extension in Skowhegan.
The training will teach the basics of how GPS works, its uses for the logger and in-the-field training application of the GPS unit.
The training will be led by Patty Cormier of the Maine Forest Service and a representative from Sandy River Outdoors.
The Maine Forest Service has 25 GPS units that participants will use for the training. Since everyone should have their own unit to use, the class is limited to 25 people. Cost is $15.
To register, contact the Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District at 778-4279 or e-mail [email protected]. To register for the Skowhegan training, contact Somerset Soil and Water Conservation District at 474-8324.
