FARMINGTON – Farmington Emblem Club 460 past presidents were honored at a supper of soups, salads and desserts prior to the start of the club’s March meeting. Each was introduced by President Nancy Chase, who gave the year that each one had served.
Before the start of the meeting, Farmington Elks 2430 member Jerry Gilman spoke about the Emblem Club’s contract for use of the Elks lodge in 2008/09.
There were 34 members present at the meeting and 57 absent, for a total of 91. Three women will join the club at the April meeting.
Diana Oliver, in charge of literacy, reported that in the past month she has read to special education and day care children and made 240 bookmarks to be given to local libraries.
The club will sponsor a blood drive on Saturday, March 29, at the Nichols Building in Wilton. Americanism Chairwoman Kamilla Hall will be get volunteers to help with a flag-folding ceremony on June 16 at Girls State in Bangor.
Shannon Smith said the club-sponsored youth cheerleaders have done well at recent competitions in Bangor. The Bangor Elks fed the children at their lodge.
The mystery gift for March was won by Lois Barker and the 50-50 raffle by Cheryl Deshaies. The club voted to make a donation toward the Wilton Blueberry Festival again this year.
Outgoing President Chase spoke about her year as the president. On Saturday, March 22, First Vice President Sylvia Richards will be installed president.
