AUBURN – Three veteran firefighters have retired from the Auburn Fire Department recently.
Lt. Jeffrey Copp announced his retirement after serving the city of Auburn for 25 years.
Hired on Sept. 9, 1982, after service in the Air Force, Copp was promoted to lieutenant in March of 1995 He was lieutenant of Engine 2 for 11 years, retiring on May 31.
Copp plans to spend as much time as he can fishing at his camp with friends and family.
Platoon Chief Bruce Goddard announced his retirement on Jan. 24, after 37 years of service.
After serving in Vietnam, Goddard joined the Auburn Fire Department on Nov. 23, 1970, working his way up through the ranks. He was promoted to platoon chief in April 2001.
Goddard and his wife plan to spend winters in Florida, but will look forward to summers in Maine with their grandchildren.
Lieutenant Albert Murch announced his retirement on Feb. 27. Murch has served with the Auburn Fire Department since December 1970.
He was promoted to lieutenant in June 1981.
Murch is known for his woodworking abilities and he has put his talents to use for the Auburn Firefighters Union Local 797 on many occasions.
Murch plans to enjoy his time on the Maine coast and traveling with his wife. He also plans to continue his woodworking skills.
Chip Keene made the plaques presented to the firefighters.
