OMITTION — The Aerie 1248, Fraternal Order of Eagles, is holding a membership recruitment today at the post and can be reached at 369-9760. An earlier version of this story on the Web and on the River Valley edition 11/15 B4 was omitted.
RUMFORD – The Aerie 1248, Fraternal Order of Eagles, will hold a member recruitment drive from noon to midnight Saturday, Nov. 17, at the hall. Members will host tours of the aerie, will have information tables about pool, bowling and dart leagues and will be available to answer questions.
In addition to the events during the day, the group will host a dance for members and interested members from 8 p.m. to midnight. Music will be provided by the Hooligans.
Home to more than 1,200 members, the aerie and auxiliary have been active in the local community for more than 100 years.
Last year, members donated more than $75,000 to local and national organizations and initiatives, including the DARE program, the March of Dimes and the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life.
The Eagles have worked with the Pink Sock Foundation, in partnership with the Breast Cancer Coalition, to raise funds for breast cancer patients. The program allocates funding to patients, helping them pay bills, buy necessities and support their families during their battles with cancer. Last year, the Maine State Eagles donated more than $12,000 to the program and project a greater donation this year through fundraisers and sales of T-shirts, jackets and sweatshirts.
