LEWISTON – The Senior College “Food for Thought” luncheon program series at USM/Lewiston-Auburn on Friday, Nov. 9, will feature a presentation by Alan Elze on the ancient historical areas of Petra, Jordan and Mt. Sinai.
Titled “Sites of Antiquity,” the program will be supplemented with slide photos of the sites, several of which are difficult to visit due to their locations in the Sinai Peninsula and Jordan.
Elze served four decades with the U.S. Navy and traveled throughout much of the world. Now retired, he teaches courses at Senior College and is a mediator with the Office of Consumer Protection and a docent and board member of Museum L-A.
His most recent presentation for the noon luncheon series was on the history and culture of the island of Sicily.
The program will be held at noon in the Function Room 170 at USM/L-A. The cost, which includes lunch, is $6.50 with advance reservation or $8 at the door, opening at 11:30 a.m.
Reservations must be made by noon Thursday, Nov. 8, by phone at 753-6510 or online at usm.maine.edu/lac/seniorcollege. The phone line will not be checked after noon and any late callers will be considered as “at the door.”
