AUBURN – Local Realtor Brenda Fontaine provides Auburn’s regional resource center, SHAREcenter, with the use of the Fontaine Family Team moving van to transport new, reusable and recyclable materials.

Every year, businesses and industries donate no-longer-needed items such as classroom materials, office supplies, furniture and electronics to SHAREcenter, which then distributes the materials to schools, home schoolers and nonprofit organizations from its Auburn headquarters.

“Last year, we reused more than 200 tons of resources and, not having a vehicle of our own at this time, transportation is an on-going challenge,” said Diane Doe, director of SHAREcenter. “Through the generosity of the Fontaine Family Team, we have been able to acquire much greater variety and volume of supplies that are vital to the education of our region’s children and to their teachers and staff.”

“We are so very pleased to be able to assist an organization that does so much to support education in our community as well as help our environment,” said Fontaine. “Through SHAREcenter, more than 55 schools realize cost savings and more than 25,000 school children benefit from the materials, while less waste is going to our landfills.”

In the past two years, SHAREcenter has utilized the vehicle for numerous pick-ups and deliveries locally as well as throughout New England. The van was originally purchased five years ago for buyer and seller clients to use.

SHAREcenter is located in the Great Falls Building at the intersection of Academy and High streets and maintains a satellite office in Building 376, Republic Avenue, Topsham. It is a nonprofit organization that relies on the efforts of more than 80 volunteers, many of them students. The Auburn School Department, the city of Auburn and SAD 75 provide space and sponsorship to the program.
