LEWISTON – The Pentecostal Kids’ Church, the Jesus Party, has announced its fall agenda. Throughout October, ministry directors Douglas and Sonia Taylor will introduce a variety of celebrations and observances to inner city children.

All events are free and open to children age 5 and up. The services will be held at 6 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m. Saturdays at 291 Bates St.

On Friday, Oct. 5, the ministry will recognize October as National Domestic Violence Month. Children will receive purple ribbons and participate in a candlelight service followed by prayer, song and a moment of silence in remembrance of all victims of violence.

The children will also make a financial donation to the Sexual Assault Crisis Center and to the Abused Women’s Advocacy Project. Adult volunteer staff will conclude the observance by laying a bouquet of flowers at the Triangle of Hope Memorial Bench/Carole Cross Memorial in Patriot’s Park on Pine Street.

On Saturday, Oct. 6, children will have breakfast and go on a trip to Apple Ridge Farms. Everyone will have the opportunity to pick apples and visit the petting zoo. The field trip was planned as completion to a four-part Bible teaching on “Creation, Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden.”

On Friday, Oct. 12, staff and children will acknowledge October as Clergy Appreciation Month. Local pastors and ministry leaders will receive “Thinking of You” cards with encouraging words for their service to the community.

Saturday, Oct. 13, the Jesus Party will help “Take a Bite Out of Crime” as part of Crime Prevention Month. A film, “Amazing Heroes,” will focus on the role of a police officer, and children will receive plastic police action figures to remind them to pray for the safety of law enforcement officers. The ministry encourages young people to log onto www.McGruff.org.

Friday, Oct 19, a celebration of America’s favorite pastime with popcorn will be wrapped up in spiritual spin. The evening will be played out in nine innings of praise and worship. Door prizes of baseball memorabilia will be given.

Saturday, Oct. 20, the ministry will celebrate National Popcorn Popping Month. Volunteer James Degen will be honored for his 12 years of service. One of Degen’s responsibilities is making popcorn on a weekly basis.

On Friday, Oct. 26, Fire Prevention Month will be observed. A film, “Amazing Heroes,” will focus on firefighters, how they live, train and work. The video is filled with fire protection tips. A moment of silence will be held for all rescue workers who have given their lives in the line of duty. Plastic firemen action figures will be given out to remind children to pray for their safety.

Saturday, Oct. 27, children will have breakfast and a discussion as they review their experiences with the celebrations and observances throughout the month. For more information on how to be involved, call 786-5568.
