WALES — Stacks of pallets 10 feet high burned at Mason Pallet Inc. on Leeds Junction Road on Wednesday afternoon, according to a Facebook post by the Wales Fire Department.
There were no reports of injuries.
Wales fire crews reported the blaze appeared to have been started as the result of a permitted burn. Once flames got into the pallets, they said, flames moved swiftly.
Photos taken by a Wales fire official showed stacks of pallets 10-feet high fully ablaze, with flames shooting 30 feet into the air. Crews snuffed out the flames before they reached a nearby warehouse.
It was not immediately clear how many pallets burned.
Crews from Wales were joined by firefighters from nearby towns, including Sabattus, Monmouth, Winthrop and Leeds. Roughly an hour after crews arrived, the fire was reported under control.
Mason Pallet recycles used pallets for sale to Maine businesses.
