Grange supper

Meet the Doars

RUMFORD – The town of Rumford will have an open house to welcome the town manager. Residents are invited to meet Town Manager James Doar and his family from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28. The architect’s plans for the town hall renovation will be on display in the auditorium.

Society meeting

MEXICO – The Mexico Historical Society will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, at the museum, 3 Oxford St.

A potluck supper will be followed by a business meeting. The guest speaker will be Carol Shenck, who is living in Turkey doing missionary work. She is visiting Bea Preblod and the Rev. Larry Shaw, her aunt and uncle.

She is the daughter of the late Mary Shaw and Ray Wilson. All are welcome to attend the meeting, supper and program.

Fundraiser

RUMFORD – The River Valley Chamber of Commerce has announced the arrival of the 2007 Stash of Cash.

The annual fundraiser offers participants a chance to win $100 every weekday for November.

In exchange for a donation of $5, participants receive a ticket. Each weekday, the chamber will draw one ticket. Winners are sent a check for $100, and the winning ticket is returned to the pot for the chance to win again. All proceeds go to the River Valley Chamber of Commerce to help fund community projects and events for 2008.

Harvest supper

RUMFORD – A public harvest supper will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at Blazing Star Masonic Lodge, Route 232, Rumford Corner. The menu will include corned beef, ham, potato, cabbage, carrots, beets, turnip, bread, coffee, punch and desserts. Cost is adults $8, children $4.
