Veterans’ advocate returns

PARIS – Effective immediately, the veterans’ advocate will again be at the Maine Veterans Home on the first and third Wednesday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon on those days.

Heritage Society picnic

PARIS – The Finnish-American Heritage Society of Maine will hold its annual picnic fire station from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 19. A bottomless coffee pot will begin the day. Accordionist Carol Reinholm will provide music for listening or dancing pleasure. The “tori” (gift shop) will be open. A potluck luncheon will be served at noon.

Christian Women meeting

PARIS – Christian Women United monthly meeting will be held at the First Congregational Church on Tuesday, Aug. 21. Luncheon will be served at 11:30 a.m. Speaker for the day is Maine Country Music Hall of Fame member Slim Andrews from Auburn, who will be playing his guitar. For reservations, call Pearl Anderson at 743-5724.

Waterford public supper

NORTH WATERFORD – A public supper will be held at the North Waterford Congregational Church from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 21, at the church on the Five Kezars Road (off routes 35 and 37, opposite Melby’s Market). The menu will include baked beans, American chop suey, casseroles, salads, brown bread, rolls, beverages and homemade pies for dessert. The price for adults is $7; children under 12, $3.50.

‘Our Daily Bread’ tasting

NORWAY – The Christ Episcopal Church is introducing a new cookbook, “Our Daily Bread” by hosting a tea party along with a dessert tasting of a number of the recipes found in the cookbook from 2 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22, at 35 Pine St. Five samples of the desserts may be purchased for $3. The $15 cookbooks will be on sale and visitors can enjoy a sneak preview.

Show, concert Wednesday

PARIS – The summer entertainment series continues on Wednesday, Aug. 22, with the Kids’ Show at 10 a.m., featuring puppeteer Dan Grady. That evening at 6 p.m. The Parisians will perform at the bandstand. Both events will be at Moore Park; rain location at the fire hall. Admission is free and open to the public. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and a picnic and enjoy the show.

Jones reunion Sunday

BRIDGTON – The Jones reunion, for descendants of John D. and Mary Rand Jones (1858-1905), will gather Sunday, Aug. 19, for a potluck dinner and meeting at the home of Loraine (Jones) and Jay Spenciner at 97 Highland Road.
