FARMINGTON – Franklin County outdoor photographer Thayden Farrington will make his debut showing at Heirlooms of Tomorrow in Farmington beginning Friday, Aug. 3.
Farrington grew up in Franklin County and has deep agricultural roots. He said, “It has been a real blessing to witness the beauty and wonder Maine holds in her wildlife, fields, forests, lakes, streams and country farmsteads.”
He explained that he “started taking pictures with print film using a yard sale-bought fixed lens Minolta camera. I started taking it with me wherever I went. I wanted to start capturing the beautiful things and places I saw as I witnessed God’s creation on my hunting, fishing and exploring trips.”
He said, “I eventually bought a Canon 35mm SLR print film camera and enjoyed it a lot until I slipped and fell in a cold mountain stream trying to get a picture of my 4-year-old granddaughter with a brook trout she had just caught on her first overnight camping trip with Grandpa. I survived the camera and lens did not. Through a generous gift of my parents I was able to get a new digital SLR camera and I am currently going through a learning curve with it and having fun and capturing great images that I love to share with others.”
Farrington has entered numerous photo contests and has taken first-, second- and third-places.
Farrington said he hopes that through his lens he can keep the outdoor spirit of Maine alive in the mind of the viewer as he continues to explore its back roads, mountains and special places. Farrington said, “Maine is a state of mind enjoy it.”
An open house reception to meet Farrington will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at Heirlooms of Tomorrow, across from the Franklin Memorial Hospital on Routes 2 and 4.
The public is invited and refreshments will be served. The photos will remain on display and available for purchase through August.
