WEST PARIS – The West Paris Mission Congregational Church is celebrating its centennial this year by having a number of special observations. In June, the church held an open house during West Paris Old Home Days. A record number of people from as far away as Massachusetts and Connecticut enjoyed fellowship, Finnish refreshments, a kantele demonstration, and looked at historic documents and pictures.

The next observation will take place at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 15, with a formal observation of the centennial and service in the church at 15 Church St., to be followed by a buffet dinner catered by Maurice Restaurant Francais.

Several former pasters are expected to attend the service, and the public is invited to attend.

Centennial mugs will be on sale for $5. Please call Cynthia Immonen by July 9 to to her know you will be attending so the caterer has a correct count. She can be reached at 43 Mountain View Drive, South Paris, ME 04281, by phone at 207-743-2384, or by email at [email protected].

Future events celebrating the church’s centennial include an outdoor service and picnic at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 12, at the home of Richard and Janet Scott, 21 Sumner Road, West Paris. The church will provide hotdogs and hamburgers. Please bring a salad or dessert to share.

The final event of the centennial year will be a concert by the Kantele Korsort at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15.
