LEWISTON – Central Maine Medical Center will host a two-day educational event in late June for physical therapists, occupational therapists, athletic trainers and other healthcare practitioners.

“Can’t Make It to California for NATA? Want to Get CEUs Right Here in New England?” will be presented on Monday and Tuesday, June 25 and 26, at CMMC.

The keynote speaker will be Gary S. Sutton, outpatient orthopaedics manager at the Sports and Occupational Rehabilitation Center at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital in Richmond, Va. He will discuss “All Us Aging Athletes” from 9 a.m. to noon Monday June 25. On Tuesday, June 26, he will return during the same time slot to talk about “Evaluation of the Shoulder – from the Backside.”

Sutton holds degrees from Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio, and Northwestern University in Chicago, and was awarded a master’s degree in orthopaedic physical therapy from the Institute of Graduate Health Sciences in Atlanta.

He is recognized by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties as a clinical specialist in sports physical therapy and a clinical specialist in orthopaedics. He is also certified as a strength and conditioning specialist and athletic trainer. He is enrolled in a doctorate of physical therapy program at Washington University in St. Louis.

He has an extensive background in physical therapy, rehabilitation and athletic training. He has taught in the physical therapy program at Cleveland State University in Cleveland and serves as an adjunct clinical associate professor in the physical therapy program at the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Va.

The cost of the seminar is $100 for both days or $55 for a single day, if registration is completed by Friday, June 8.

Students may participate for $75, or $40 for one day. Onsite registration will be permitted, if space allows, at a cost $150 for both days and $105 for one day.

Central Maine Medical Center is authorized by the Board of Certification Inc. to offer continuing education for certified athletic trainers. The program has been approved for a maximum of 13 hours of Category A continuing education.
