LEWISTON – The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center will host a theatrical performance on Sunday, June 3, at Marco’s Restaurant, 12 Mollison Way.
The center will celebrate the 20th annual National Cancer Survivors Day to give voice to the millions of people who have been touched by cancer. It is an annual, worldwide celebration of life that is held in hundreds of communities throughout the United States, Canada and other participating countries.
Cancer survivors, caregivers, family members, friends and healthcare professionals will unite to show the world that life after a cancer diagnosis can be a reality.
Members of Mystery for Hire will perform “Zelda and Zoe’s Spirits of Suspicion” at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 3.
The show takes the audience on a journey into the psychic world and the mystical arts as they join would-be psychic sisters, Zelda and Zoe. The pair is sure to impress as they lay out their predictions for the future, answer questions about the unknown, and stir up the spirits in the afterlife.
“This event will lift your spirits because you can learn how surviving cancer is an attitude about life and living each day to the fullest,” said Karen Clark, event organizer and oncology director for the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.
A cancer survivor is defined by the NCSD Foundation as anyone living with a history of cancer – from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of life. Approximately 10.5 million Americans are now living with and beyond a diagnosis of cancer. In the United States, almost half of all men and one third of women are expected to be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives.
