Waste drop-off

BUCKFIELD – Town of Hartford waste drop-off will be from noon to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 17, at the Buckfield/Sumner Transfer Station. New style T.S. sticker is required.

Youth event

PARIS – Paris Hill First Baptist Church is sponsoring a youth event for junior and senior high school students from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 18. There will be pizza and a movie, “Facing the Giants.” There is no fee.

Trail cleanup

PARIS – Western Maine Health announces the local National Trails Day cleanup of trails on Saturday, June 2, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., taking place along the yet-to-be completed Riverside Trail. Individuals should meet at the head of the Viking Trail at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. Bags and gloves will be provided. Call Amy at 743-1562, ext. 778, for more information.

Dog classes

OXFORD – Dog obedience classes will be offered at Oxford Station House Community Center. Anyone interested may contact Ashley Colby at 212-3499. The classes will begin on Monday, June 4, from 6 to 7 p.m. It is a six-week course and the cost is $50. Oxford residents have preference; if there is room, residents from other towns will be allowed to participate.

Linda Knowlton will conduct the class. She has more than 30 years of experience in the field and she requires that participants have their dog on a leash, that they are up to date on all shot and asks that they bring treats for the dog.

Bridge results

NORWAY – The Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met May 11 in the Fare Share Commons. A four-table Howell movement club championship was played

Finishing first in Flight A were Pat and Mike Quinn; second, Carol Curran and MaryLou Burns. They also first in Flight B. Finishing second in Flight B were Bev Dolan and Bev Pelletier.

There will be another game on Friday, May 18. All bridge players are invited. For information, call Les Buzzell at 783-4153. A partner is always guaranteed.

Society meeting

WEST PARIS – The Finnish-American Heritage Society of Maine will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at the Heritage Center. Following a brief business meeting, Belinda Brunfelt will present a program on “Louhi, the Witch from the Kalevala.”
