River festival
STRONG – The Sandy River Festival, featuring fishing, swimming, inner tube racing, fly casting, fly tying lessons and games for all ages, will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 2, at the American Legion Field.
All are invited to celebrate the river with paddlers and landlubbers and bring a lunch or have hot dogs and hamburgers from the grill. The event is free. For more information, call 684-4429.
Relay sale
NEW PORTLAND – A new Relay For Life team, FACT, has announced it will have a fundraising lawn sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, May 26 and 27, across from the North New Portland Post Office on Route 16.
They will also sell table space for anyone interested. Cost will be $8 a table. For more information, call Pat or Gene Pray at 628-4624.
Clean-up day
STRONG – A clean-up day is scheduled for the Lance Corporal Scott Paul Memorial Park at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 19 (rain date Sunday, May 20). People should bring rakes and shovels.
Drive extended
JAY – The Tri-Valley Food Drive has been extended through Friday, May 18. The United Way of the Tri-Valley Area, Western Maine Transportation and Verso Paper teamed up to do a major food drive from May 7 to 11 and have extended the date.
There are 10 food pantries throughout the area that need help. Food has been collected at the United Way Office, 232 Broadway, as well as at Verso Paper. The food will be delivered to Fairbanks, where it will be divided and distributed to the pantries. Along with nonperishable food items, household items and cash donations are also needed.
