FARMINGTON – One eighth-grade and two seventh-grade Mt. Blue Middle School students recently received recognition from the Center for Talented Youth at Johns Hopkins University for their outstanding performance on the Scholastic Aptitude Test.
Eighth-grader Kjell Nordstrom and seventh-graders North Kay and Gianluck Pane scored equal to or above the average college-bound senior. Kay will be further honored for his outstanding scores on Saturday, May 19, at the University of Maine at Orono at the statewide 2007 talent search awards ceremony.
The center looks for exceptional mathematical and/or verbal reasoning abilities among students of seventh- and eighth-grade age in order to provide opportunities that encourage them to excel.
The talent search gives students the opportunity to take a test designed for older students, one with a higher ceiling. This testing reveals more about their academic abilities and allows students to compare their results with those of other highly able students. Participants also learn about educational options and opportunities for students with similar abilities.
