Pomona meeting

MINOT – Members of Androscoggin Pomona Grange will meet at West Minot Grange on Wednesday, May 2, for a 6:30 p.m. supper. During the business meeting, which will start at 7:30, the fifth degree will be conferred. Granges having candidates for the Pomona degree are welcome to bring them.

A 50/50 raffle and an attendance drawing will be held. Subordinate winners of the cooking contest are reminded to bring their congo squares for judging. All members and guests are welcome.

Sodalist of year

LEWISTON – The Ladies of St Ann Sodality of Holy Family Parish will honor the Sodalist of the Year at a buffet banquet on Wednesday, May 9, at the Green Ladle Cafe, Goddard Road.

Tickets are $16 and are limited. No tickets will be sold at the door, which will open at 5:30. Entertainment will be provided by Mark Morin

Dahlia days canceled

TURNER – Dahlia Days, planned for May 5 by the North Turner Presbyterian Church, has been canceled due to unforeseen circumstances.

Weight loss class

LEWISTON – Certified hypnotherapist Valerie St. Clair will present a four-week series on weight loss May 16, 23, 30 and June 6. Sessions will start at 6 p.m. in the Club 50 Room at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center. The series costs $45. Call 753-5467 to register and pay St. Clair the night of the class.

Emily’s walk-a-thon

LEWISTON – Emily Beaulieu, 8, of Litchfield started a charity called Emily’s Wish two years ago. Emily’s Wish collects and distributes toys to kids who have been victims of all types of disasters.

Emily will host a walk-a-thon to obtain toys for her charity from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 5, at Shaw’s. To walk with Emily, people need to bring a toy.

There will be firefighters, police officers, American Red Cross volunteers and others on hand to support to Emily’s cause.

Memorial parade

LEWISTON – The L & A Veterans Council will hold a Memorial Day parade and ceremony starting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 26. The ceremony will follow the parade at Veterans Park.

All organization, Boy and Girl Scouts, youth, fraternal, veterans, military vehicles and bands, are invited to participate in the parade. Several dignitaries have been invited.

Following the memorial ceremony, the council will present special thank-you certificates to all Vietnam veterans present.

Caregivers’ session

LEWISTON – In recognition of National Nursing Home Week, St. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion will hold an informational session on Wednesday, May 16, on offering care and comfort to caregivers and their loved ones with Alzheimer’s or dementia.

Dr. Laura Coleman, medical director for Beacon Hospice, will discuss the program Deep Harbors. The program offers an advanced level of care and quality of life for late- and end-stage dementia patients. It is designed to support the needs of the patient and family, whether the patient is at home or in a residential care facility.

Representatives from Beacon Hospice will also be available to provide information and demonstrations of comfort measures through massage, feeding practices, music and a life review.

There will be door prizes. Coffee and dessert will be provided. The free presentation will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the d’Youville Pavilion resident dining room. Call Lorrie Potvin at 753-5467 to register.

AUBURN – There will be an indoor yard/craft sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at the New Auburn Social Club, 7 Second St. Tables are still available for $10. Food and beverages will be offered. For more information, call 782-9039.

Bridge results

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on April 24 at the Multi-Purpose Center. Winners were: first, Fred Letourneau and Jeanine Kivus; second, David Lock and Patricia Garcia; third, Luke Merry and Mike Quinn; fourth, Mike True and Roger Briggs. Another game will be played at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, at the center.

The club also met on April 25 at Schooner Estates in Auburn. Winners were: first, Fred Letourneau and Rosemarie Goodwin; second, Alberta Turner and Lucille Bilodeau; third, David Lock and Jeanine Kivus.

The game next week will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at Schooner Estates. A partner is guaranteed at both games. For more information, call Lucille Theriault at 783-0431.
