GREENE – Filmmaker Clint Denn will present a film, “Inside Switzerland,” at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 26, and 2 and 7 p.m. Friday, April 27, at the Araxine Wilkins Sawyer Memorial, 371 Sawyer Road.
Switzerland is dominated by the central part of the Alps; two major rivers, the Rhine and the Rhone; and numerous lakes.
Areas are identified with cultural heritage; German to the north and east, French in the southwest, Italian in the southeast and a small enclave of Romansh in the east. Churches, cathedrals, castles and old town centers reflect the diversity. Each region take pride in their local music but alphorns and yodelers are recognized as symbolic Swiss music.
The film will visit the rivers, mountains and several lakes and show the cultural changes from Geneva to Schaffhausen to Poschiavo. The audience will also hear alphorns on Lake Lucerne and yodelers at Ballenberg.
Denn has been a movie actor, author, photographer, underwater explorer and teacher, as well as an award-winning filmmaker.
After serving in the U.S. Navy, he joined in partnership with Col. John D. Craig, famed for his television series, including “I Search for Adventure” and “Of Lands and Seas.” Together, they wrote a nationally recognized text on scuba and skin diving, and produced several prize-winning films.
