LEWISTON – As part of the Earth Day celebration, Androscoggin Valley Soil and Water Conservation District is offering a conservation plant sale. The plants are native and give an opportunity to beautify the yard, protect water quality and soil stability or provide food and habitat for wildlife and birds. Some plantings are noted for doing well in wetlands.

SkyJuice New England and Androscoggin Valley SWCD have teamed up to also offer 55-gallon rain barrels to help residents conserve water, save money and reduce storm water run-off.

A rain barrel collects water from the roof when it rains and stores it for watering house and outside plantings during periods of drought or peak usage. Collected rain water contains more nutrients and less salts than tap water, so it is good for plants. The rain barrels are being offered for $65 with tax included.
