WILTON – Town meetings for Friends of People with Dementia will be held at the Wilson Grange, East Wilton, with Peg Gagnon, MS, information and outreach specialist, Alzheimer’s Association, as facilitator.

The events are being sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association, the Healthy Community Coalition and the Ben Franklin Center at Franklin Memorial Hospital. Light refreshments will be provided.

There are more than 700 people with Alzheimer’s disease in Franklin County – family members, friends and neighbors.

The free education series will kick off from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 28. Discussion will center on what’s involved with the diagnosis of dementia and stages of dementia of the Alzheimer’s type.

The remaining sessions will be as follows:

April 11, what it must be like to have Alzheimer’s disease; what is it about Alzheimer’s caregiving that causes so much stress.

April 25, easy ways to communicate and spend time with a person with dementia; meaningful activities to do with a person with dementia; dangers of a person wandering and how to help keep a watchful eye.

May 9, how little is needed to make life better for a caregiver; community resources to tell a neighbor in time of need.
