LEWISTON – Rita Brodeur recently celebrated her 90th birthday at a party at the Carriage House given by her five children: Fred, Anita, Yvonne, Denise, Roger and their spouses.
Brodeur’s birthday was Jan. 15. Her siblings, Alice Theriault, JP Blouin and Gloria Bernard and husband, Bob, joined her at the table of honor. Two other siblings, her sister Raymonde and her brother, Brother Francis, were unable to attend. Brother Francis, working in Uganda, sent a letter reminiscing over her 90 years.
More than 50 guests attended, including nine grandchildren. The hall was decorated with large snowflakes in the shape of “90,” made by her grandson, Justin Whitney, age 10. Her granddaughter, Meilin Brodeur, age 12, made 90 golden cranes. Cranes symbolize longevity and health.
Two granddaughters Jessica and Kristen Whitney, sang songs of her era and Jessica put together a PowerPoint presentation of Brodeur’s life. Another granddaughter, Julie Blanchette, arranged the candle centerpieces.
