Day of prayer

SUMNER – The Congregational Church of East Sumner will host World Day of Prayer 1 p.m. Friday, March 2.

The women of the Buckfield Community Church will present the program, which was written by the World Day of Prayer Women of Paraguay. The theme is “United under God’s Tent.” The offering will be be used to assist families in regions of turmoil.

Women from Canton, Hartford and Livermore churches will take part in the multi-church service. The public is invited. Refreshments will be provided. For more information, contact Cynthia Norton at 388-2667.

Breastfeeding

NORWAY – The La Leche League will meet at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 1, at the Fare Share Market. Another meeting will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 12, at a leader’s house. Babies and children and other supporters are welcome.

Services include monthly informational meetings, lending library and 24-hour phone help for breastfeeding problems or questions. All mothers and their children are welcome.

Winter lecture

PARIS – A free winter lecture, “Clematis: Queen of the Flowering Vine,” will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, at the McLaughlin Garden.

The lecture, to be given by Cindy Tibbetts from Hummingbird Farm, will feature a slide show and talk. She will cover plant selection, placement, planting and pruning.

Snow date will be March 14. All lectures in the winter series will take place in the newly restored front parlor of the historic house at the McLaughlin Garden.

The McLaughlin Garden is looking for volunteers for the garden, gift shop, office, tours and new garden guides program. Staff would also like more volunteers for the programs and activities during the spring. Those interested should call 743-8820 or e-mail [email protected].
