LEWISTON – Members of the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club will meet at noon Thursday, Nov. 30, at the Ramada Inn to hear a presentation by Maine District Court Judge John B. Beliveau, Kristen McAuley and Lindsay Camire of the Lewiston Family Treatment Drug Court.

The drug court team will discuss alternative approaches to reunifying families affected by substance abuse.

The Lewiston Family Treatment Drug Court combines supervision of families by the district court judge with intensive treatment for drug and alcohol abuse and other services. The court works with providers of the services, the family and others to address the substance abuse issues that are having a negative effect on the children in the family. It requires the court to focus on the safety and welfare of the child as it monitors the progress of parents or other household members.

The primary goal of the court is to establish permanency for the child while providing wraparound services, with the ultimate goal of parent/child reunification. The court works to protect the child while working to keep the family intact.

Beliveau has been a district court judge since 1984. He is a former county prosecutor and former mayor of Lewiston.

McAuley is the family treatment drug court and juvenile drug court coordinator for Maine. She works for the administrative office of the courts in the family division. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a master’s degree in public health.

Camire is the family treatment drug court case manager and is employed by Volunteers of America. She graduated from Northeastern University with a bachelor of science in criminal justice.
