Supper, auction
HARTFORD – The Hartford Community Church will hold a supper and silent auction from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Hartford Town Hall, Route 140. Cost is $6 for adults; $3 for children 10 and under; free, children 5 and under. Menu will include many types of entrees, salads, bread and rolls, with cake and vanilla ice cream for dessert. The supper will be followed by an auction. Proceeds will benefit the Hartford Community Church.
Haunted hayride
BUCKFIELD – A haunted hayride will be held from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 27 and 28, at the Buckfield Downs Racetrack, Route 117. Admission is $5 a person or $25 a family. The ride is sponsored by the Buckfield High School senior class.
Worship leader
PARIS – Merry Shore will be the worship leader on Sunday, Oct. 29, at the First Universalist Church, 36 Pine St., South Paris,. Her sermon topic at the 10 a.m. service will be “Here I Stand.” The music will be under the direction of Forest Perkins, church organist. Renee Wales will lead the Sunday school. Child care is provided. The coffee hour will follow in Good Cheer Hall. Everyone is welcome.
Benefit supper
LOCKE MILLS – A benefit supper and dance will be held for John and Nancy Haines from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Locke Mills Legion Hall. The cost is $5 for the supper; $10 for both. The dance will be from 7 to 11 p.m. Proceeds will help defray medical costs. For more information, contact Helen Young at 527-2760.
Bottle drive
OXFORD – Otisfield Community School is holding a bottle drive to raise money to help build a greenhouse at the school. Bottles and cans may be dropped off at the redemption center next to Polly’s Variety on Route 121 through November. Call Vickie Gallant at 743-1947 for more information.
Open house
WATERFORD – The Waterford Library will have an open house for children and their families from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31.
Boiled dinner
NORWAY – A New England boiled dinner will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, at Second Congregational Church, Main Street. The public is invited. The cost will be $7.50 for adults and $3.50 for children under age 10. The menu will include corned beef cooked by Chef Claude, cabbage, onions, beets, potatoes, carrots, homemade rolls by Lilo, homemade pies, coffee and juice.
Quit smoking
OXFORD – The “I QUIT” smoking cessation program will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 6, 7, 8 and 9, at Oxford Congregational Church, King Street. Round table
BETHEL – Wayne DuPlessis, Bethel therapist, will present a round table discussion on depression, anxiety and seasonal affective disorder from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at Crescent Park School.
DuPlessis will facilitate a discussion and present information on the three mood disorders. He said the disorders affect a large portion of the general population at one time or another. He will discuss the ways in which people can minimize symptoms or minimize the degree to which symptoms impact their daily lives.
The workshop is part of the “To Your Health” series presented this fall by Western Mountains Senior College and SAD 44 Adult Education in collaboration with the Bethel Family Health Center.
Other programs in the series include “Finding Balance Through Your Eyes, Tail and Toes” by Betsey Foster, MPH, on Nov. 4; “The Power of Laughter” by Carol Emery, MS, on Nov. 18; and “The Art of Belly Dancing” by Janet Willie, LMT, on Dec. 9.
The public is invited and admission is free. Advance registration will help with planning. Call 824-8610.
Clothing sale
HARTFORD – The clothing center at the Hartford Community Church, Church Street, will hold a bag sale from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4.
