Veterans fundraiser

LEWISTON – The Franco-American War Veterans Post 31 will conduct a veterans fundraiser Friday and Saturday, Oct. 27 and 28, at Shaw’s of Lewiston and Friday, Oct. 7, at Marden’s. Applications to join the post will be available also as will applications to have veterans’ names engraved on a stone at the Veteran’s Memorial Park.

Scout nights

MECHANIC FALLS – Girl Scouts of Kennebec Council will hold parent information and registration meetings at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, at the Minot Consolidated School and at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, at the Elm Street School.

Parents will learn about Girl Scout activities for their daughters as well as volunteer options available for adults. A registration fee is $10 is payable by check. Financial assistance is available.

Girl Scouts of Kennebec Council provides programs for more than 10,000 girls ages 5 to 17 in Androscoggin, Cumberland, Franklin, Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln, Oxford, Sagadahoc, Somerset and York counties.

Tables for rent

GREENE – Androscoggin Grange 8 will hold its annual craft fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at the grange hall. Anyone wishing to rent a table can call Janice at 946-5006 or Dell at 946-5050.

Railroad show

AUBURN – All tracks lead to the 33rd annual Model Railroad Show, sponsored by the Great Falls Model RR Club, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at the Auburn Middle School, 610 Court St.

The program will include operating trains, model railroad supplies, live clinics and a model HO gauge train layout raffle. Cost is adults $4; under 15 years, $2. For more information, call 933-2477.

Vet craft show

LEWISTON – The Lewiston Vet Center will host an arts and crafts show from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 8 and 9, at the center.

Admission is free and there will be refreshments. All veterans are welcome to display their work at the show. The displays will include oil and watercolor paintings, drawings, sculpture and metal work, woodworking, short stories and poetry.

To aid set up, artists who want to display their work can deliver and register their works to the Vet Center at least one or two days prior to the show. Call Bill Malay at 783-0068 for assistance. Volunteers are being sought to help with the show.

Toy drive

AUBURN – The Rambunctious Red Hatters will sponsor at Christmas toy drive on Friday, Nov. 17, at the Auburn Mall, Center Street. Residents are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy for a boy or girl. The Salvation Army will be in charge of distribution.

Making wreaths

LISBON – It is time to register to a Christmas wreath at Beaver Park.Classes will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 18, 19, 25 and 26 at Beaver Park. A wreath will be completed in one session. The cost is $8 a wreath. Contact Park Ranger Verla Brooks at 353-9075 to register for class or for information.

Boston trip

TURNER – SAD 52 River Valley Adult and Community Education is again sponsoring its annual day trip to Boston on a Cyr Bus Lines 47-passenger bus on Saturday, Dec. 2. It will leave the Turner Elementary School parking lot at 7:30 a.m. Pick-up at the Auburn exit will also be available. Return to Turner will be approximately 8 p.m.

The bus will stop near Faneuil Hall for passengers to depart and spend the day shopping, touring historic sites and dining. The fee is $27 for adults and $18 for children 12 and under. Those interested must register for the trip by Nov. 27. Call the SAD 52 Adult Ed office at 225-3478 for more information.

Holiday program

GREENE – The Women’s Club of Greene is again sponsoring its annual Christmas program for less-privileged seniors and children age 12 and under.

Donations of cash, gift certificates, new toys and clothing, as well as hygiene products, are needed in order to ensure that friends and neighbors have a good Christmas season. Donors may also choose to sponsor a specific child, family or senior. Specifics on clothing sizes and toy requests are available as well.
