SOUTH BERWICK – The third show of the Maine Band Directors Association’s 23rd marching band season was held at Marshwood High School on Sept. 30. Fourteen high school bands from Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts performed for evaluations in the show titled “Music by the Sea.” Exhibition performances were given by the marching bands from the University of New Hampshire and the University of Maine.
The high school bands received star ratings in the areas of general effect, music, visual, percussion, color guard and drum major, as well as an overall star rating.
Bands receiving overall ratings of one star were Edward Little, Lawrence, Lewiston, Sanford and Wells. All the bands received two stars for drum major. Sanford and Wells also received two stars for music.
Bands receiving overall ratings of two stars were Biddeford, Dover, N.H., Leavitt, Marshwood, Old Orchard Beach, Salem, Mass., South Portland and Westbrook. Biddeford, Dover, Marshwood and Salem received three stars for drum major. Salem High School also received three stars for music and South Portland High School received three stars for percussion.
The remaining shows of the regular season sponsored by the association will be held at Old Orchard Beach High School on Saturday, Oct. 14, and Portsmouth High School on Saturday, Oct. 21. Both will begin at 6 p.m.
The 23rd annual association marching band final is scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at Biddeford High School. For more information, visit www.mebda.org.
