Fire safety

GRAY – “Prevent Cooking Fires: Watch What You Heat” is the message of this year’s Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 8 to 14.

Members of the Gray Fire-Rescue Department will visit local schools and day care centers during the week to talk with children about fire safety. Children will be reminded that more fires start in the kitchen than in any other part of the home.

Day care centers that have not arranged for a visit should call the Gray Fire-Rescue dispatcher at 657-3931. The department normally sends a fire truck and several firefighters to demonstrate equipment and discuss safety.

Other clubs and groups can arrange to visit Gray’s Central Station at 125 Shaker Road. Gray’s front-line fire and rescue trucks are parked at Central Station, and children can get a hands-on look at the world of a firefighter.

Gray Fire-Rescue will finish the week with an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at Central Station. Children should bring their parents.
