RUMFORD – The River Valley Democrats entertained the Oxford County Democrats at the annual barbecue at the Franklin Street home of Maurice and Theresa Fraser, co-hosted by Rep. John and Claire Patrick on Sept. 17.

More than 150 people turned out to welcome Gov. John E. Baldacci and Congressman Mike Michaud, as well as Secretary of State Matt Dunlap.

Patrick served as Master of Ceremonies and introduced Baldacci.

Baldacci spoke about the accomplishments of his first term and the steps he plans in his second term. Michaud spoke about the hopes he has for gaining a Democratic majority in the House of Representatives, the importance of supporting Democratic candidates for the Maine House and Senate and in re-electing Baldacci.

Remarks were given by Sen. Bruce Bryant of Dixfield, County Treasurer Mary Ann Prue of Rumford, Mexico Selectman Reggie Arsenault, candidate for House in District 93, Tim Carter of Bethel, candidate for House in District 91, and Wilton Police Chief Wayne Gallant of Rumford, candidate for Oxford County sheriff.

County Chairwoman Cathy Newell thanked those attending for their generosity in supporting the county Democrats and asked that they contribute to the campaigns of Gallant and Prue who, as county candidates, are not eligible for Maine Clean Elections Funding.
