Book sale

MT. VERNON – A book sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 15, at the Mt. Vernon Community Center to benefit the Dr. Shaw Memorial Library.

Fiction, nonfiction, hardback and paperback, recent titles and older items will be available. Andrew Weegar’s books are available.

Bible school

FARMINGTON – Fairbanks Union Church will hold vacation Bible school from Monday through Friday, July 17 to 21. The theme will be “A Treasure Hunt.” All ages are welcome. For more information, call the Rev. Scott Planting at 778-4654 or 778-4705.

Garden tour

WILTON – The Mt. Blue Area Garden Club will meet Tuesday, July 18, at Pat Morse’s Mourning Doves Gardens, 1077 Main St.

The meeting and garden tour will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a brown bag supper. Those attending are asked to bring a chair and a plant for the swap. Beverage and dessert will be provided. Morse’s gardens were started in 2003 and continue to expand, with hostas, daylilies, perennials and annuals.

Society elects

NEW VINEYARD – The New Vineyard Historical Society met recently with 13 attending. Unfinished business was completed and officers were elected as follows: president, Sherwood Anderson; vice president, Elaine Wells; treasurer, Carolee Merrill; and secretary, Geraldine Stewart.

Following the business meeting, members traveled to the Maine Cottage Garden in Strong where the owner, Carolyn Jenson, conducted the tour of her garden. At the end of the tour, she presented each with a plant.

The society meets at 7 p.m. on the third Wednesday, March through September. All persons interested in preserving the history of New Vineyard are invited.

Library open

LIVERMORE FALLS – Treat Memorial Library has announced that it is open again. The July 10 town meeting resolved the budget issue and the summer reading program will go forward as planned. There will be contests, games, crafts and storytimes.

Vacation school

CARTHAGE – Vacation Bible School – Fiesta!, for children ages 5 to 13, will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, July 24 to 28, at Carthage Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Route 142. Stories, games, crafts and lunch will be provided daily.

Voter reunion

STRONG – The Voter Family Historical Association annual reunion will be held starting at 10 a.m. Sunday, July 30, at David Conant’s home on True Hill Road. A potluck meal will be held at noon. All Voters and descendants of John and Louis Voter are welcome. Bring a dish, chair, sunglasses and item for an auction. For more information, e-mail [email protected].
