BRUNSWICK — Barbara “Barb” Bryant, of Colonial Gardens, Lisbon Falls, died Wednesday, April 25.

She was born in Gardiner on Jan. 29, 1934, to Roy C. and Dorothy M. Fraser. She was the foster daughter of Clair and Priscilla Oakes, who lovingly raised her after her mother died in 1937. Barb was a proud Navy veteran, serving her country, where she met her husband, Herbert. When Herb passed away in 2009, they had been married for a wonderful 55 years.

As a young girl she worked in the shoe industry in Freeport. During Herb’s and Barb’s 20 years of being Florida “snowbirds,” she would work at the Freeport Nursing Home during their summers in Maine. She loved substitute teaching for the Lisbon School Department and was well-known to many as “Mrs. B.”

She loved her church and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a very happy, upbeat and positive person. Barb was also very opinionated, strong-willed, stubborn, generous and caring. After church on Sunday you could find Barb watching football with her gorgeous and well-behaved cat, Norman, and her buddy, Dan. Her favorite teams were the Patriots and Alabama Crimson Tide.

Barb loved baking cookies, family gatherings, yard sales, decorating wreaths, her pastors’ visits, playing computer Scrabble, spending time with the Red Hatters group, trips to the ocean, lunches out and “shop ’til you drop weekends” with her three daughters. Barb especially loved her Widows Group and weekly McDonald’s trips. She is thankful for their friendship and support over the years after the loss of her beloved husband.

Barb leaves behind her three beautiful daughters, Priscilla Bryant-Gaffney (James) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Patricia Haines (Royce) of Lakeville and Paula Landry (Gary) of Richmond; one handsome, smart and talented grandson, Taylor Haines, and his beautiful wife, Lauren, of Corinth; one sweet, younger sister, Beryl Karkos (George), of Lisbon. Barb will also be remembered by her very close friends, Elaine Conway, Pauline-a-Gregoire, Leanne Celinski and last but certainly not least, her very special friends and neighbors, Dan and Gwen Michel.

She was predeceased by her husband, Herb; mother and father; foster parents; older sister, Erma Downs; and two very close friends, LaVerne Williams and Amber Tarr.
