BRUNSWICK – Merrymeeting Audubon will hold its annual Scholarship Benefit Dinner and Auction at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, at St. Charles Borromeo Church meeting room on McKeen Street.

The evening will feature soups and bread by the Humble Gourmet and a presentation on the search for the ivory-billed woodpecker by Phillip Hoose, author of “The Race to Save the Lord God Bird,” winner of the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award.

For the past 28 years, Hoose has been a staff member of the Nature Conservancy, working to save plant and animal species found within ecosystems shared by the United States and Canada.

A silent auction will be held featuring day adventure trips to view puffins, boreal birds and saw-whet owls. Also featured will be certificates for local restaurants and organic produce, as well as several gift items, which include a pastel drawing of a Peregrine falcon by leading falcon biologist and author, Jim Enderson.

Proceeds will support the scholarship program for Brunswick/Bath area students, which annually sends more than 20 children and young adults to learn more about the natural history of Maine at Tanglewood 4-H, the Maine Conservation School and Maine Audubon’s Hog Island Camp.
