Auburn, Lewiston, Lisbon and the sheriff’s department sent officers.
AUBURN – Several local law enforcement officers from Androscoggin County recently completed a weapons of mass destruction training course at the Center for Domestic Preparedness in Anniston, Ala.
Taking part were Deputy David Rancourt of the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department, Sergeant Danny Lachance and Officers Richard Stanton, Todd MacWhinnie and Keith Caouette of the Lewiston Police Department, Officers Eric Bell and Michael Chaine of the Auburn Police Department and Officer Darin Estes of the Lisbon Police Department.
The center is operated by the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Grants and Training and is the only federally-chartered weapons of mass destruction training facility in the country.
It is also a member of the National Domestic Preparedness Consortium, in partnership with Louisiana State University, the Nevada Test Site, New Mexico Tech and Texas A&M.
Responders attending training are specially selected from the nation’s 11 million emergency responders. Training ensures that responders gain critical skills and confidence to be better prepared to effectively respond to local incidents or potential incidents.
