Almost! The Monmouth Academy girls’ basketball team almost made it to the State Championships. They were in the Western Maine Finals playing against Madison High School. The Madison Bulldogs were the number one seed in western Maine, as well as in the MVC. (Mountain Valley Conference) The Monmouth Mustangs were seeded in second place. This obviously made for a good game.

The Monmouth Mustangs played the Madison Bulldogs three times before the Western Maine Finals. In the first game, Madison won at Monmouth Academy. But when Monmouth played them the second time, the Lady Stangs defeated the Madison Bulldogs. Plus, they beat them at their home court, so that was exciting.

The third time Monmouth played Madison was for the MVC Championship. Monmouth lost by two points at the buzzer! However, this did not keep Monmouth from trying to beat Madison in the final game. The Western Maine Championship game was an excellent game, but we didn’t win. The fun part was that almost the whole school board and much of the town was there to cheer the Monmouth Lady Mustangs, even though they didn’t quite win. The score was close 46-43. Almost!!!
