Have you ever wanted to take a tropical vacation, but never had the opportunity? Well, here’s your chance. Tell your boss and co-workers you’ll be out of the office from March 7th to March 16th because Community Little Theater is presenting Once on this Island, which is part of its sixty-eighth season. Once on this Island is a calypso flavored musical featuring island ballads and ravishing costumes. It tells the story of Timoune, a peasant girl who falls in love with a wealthy grandhomme named Daniel. She is guided through this journey in her life by the gods. The gods include Asaka, mother of the earth, Agwe, god of water, Erzulie, beautiful goddess of love, and Papa Ge, sly deamon of death.
For me, being a cast member of this show is such a fortunate experience. The cast and crew are amazingly talented. Its bitter-sweet that the show dates are coming up because this has been such a merry time. I highly encourage other high school students to participate in up-coming shows because being part of shows at CLT is guaranteed to be a wonderful after school hobby! Rehearsals can be time consuming, but they are fun and you get to meet a lot of different people. It has been a great way to learn about all aspects of theater and to learn more skills as a performer. This show is sure to be a smashing good time and may even convince others to join the fun and experience that CLT offers young artists to flourish. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased in person at CLT, or conveniently online at laclt.com. Come see what all the fun is about!
