NORWAY – The Norway Memorial Library is partnering with AARP Tax-Aide and the Lewiston-Auburn Tax Credit Awareness Coalition to provide free income tax preparation every Wednesday from late January through mid-April.

Volunteers are needed to be part of a team that will provide one-on-one help to individuals and families. All ages and backgrounds are encouraged to volunteer.

A variety of volunteer positions are available. A volunteer is needed to take calls and schedule appointments. Two volunteers are needed to act as greeter/screeners. Up to four volunteers are needed to prepare federal and state income tax returns.

Because training for all of these positions is provided in January, volunteers need to be identified by mid-December. Most volunteers work four to eight hours a week during the filing season.

The person making appointments should have a computer and e-mail access. The volunteer position can be done from someone’s home. Screener/greeters should enjoy meeting and working with the public. Individuals who usually prepare their own tax returns and have average computer skills are good candidates to be tax- return preparers.

To learn more or to volunteer, contact Joan Jagolinzer, state coordinator, AARP Tax-Aide, before Dec. 15. She may be reached at [email protected] or 207-883-8415.
