LEWISTON – The Abused Women’s Advocacy Project is looking for caring individuals to join the volunteer team. Volunteers are needed for the 24/7 telephone crisis line, shelter advocate, court advocate, children’s program, support group facilitators and office support. Volunteer advocates are needed in Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties.

All advocates are trained to provide information, resources and options to those who seek services (domestic violence). The volunteers offer support over the telephone and in person. They can assist with court proceedings, provide individual or group support for women and children and assist with general office tasks.

For more information on how to become involved with AWAP, call 795-6744, ext. 22. A new training is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at Bates College.
