At Philip W. Sugg Middle School in Lisbon, each quarter during the school year, two students-a girl and a boy are recognized for their achievements. This program is called Student of the Quarter. The decision is based on the students’ grades and work habits. The teachers nominate students in any of their class and decide who deserves the award. The students receive plaques with their name engraved by Maine Awards. The awards are sponsored by members of the Lisbon Rotary Club. Parents of students are notified their child has been nominated. This year for the first quarter there were a lot of nominees because the sixth grade students are also eligible, as well as seventh and eight grade students.

Justin Campbell and Katherine Lemieux received the Student of the Quarter this first quarter at PWS. Both Justin and Katherine great eighth grade students!

This Advocate reporter asked Justin how it felt to get the Student of the Quarter and he said “I was excited and happy because my parents were proud of me.” I then asked him what kinds of grades he gets and he responded “I get threes and fours.” With the grading system at PWS these grades are A’s and B’s. I also asked him how he behaves in class. Justin shared “I am a good and a hard worker but I also put a lot of fun into it and joke around a lot.”

I also asked Katherine the same questions. When asked how she felt to receive the Student of the Quarter she replied “I was proud and it felt very good.” She shared “I usually get threes,” which are B’s with the grading system. When asked how she behaves in class she said “I am quiet, do my work and I stay on task.”

So, as you can see, the award went to two, very good, well-behaved students at PWS who really deserve to be recognized.
