AUBURN – Edward Little High School’s senior class is spearheading fund-raising efforts at the school to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
In much the same way that the school came together last year to assist with the devastation caused by the tsunami, the students hope Edward Little can reach and surpass its $2,500 goal.
Some of the activities planned for September include daily bake sales, bottle collections, faculty “jeans days” all week, a hat day for students who pay $1 and spare change collections.
Mentor time will be used for a schoolwide assembly where a presentation will be given, and the football game on Friday, Sept. 9, will have a special collection. For that night only, ticket prices will be raised by $1, with the extra money going toward the collection.
Members of the National Honor Society will make colored ribbons representing the states affected by the hurricane.
If anyone wishes to support the senior class in their efforts, checks may be sent to Edward Little High School, 77 Harris St., Auburn, ME 04210, with a notation that the money is for the Hurricane Katrina Fund. A ceremonial check presentation will be made to the Red Cross in early October.
