LIVERMORE – The public is invited to attend the Livermore Republican Town Committee meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, at the Brettuns Community Building.

Guest speaker will be Peter Slovenski, author of “Old School America (A Collection of Republican Principles).”

Slovenski was born and raised in Lewiston, received his BA in English from Dartmouth College and his MS in education from Stanford. Slovenski has been the head coach of men’s and women’s track and field at Bowdoin College since 1987.

He authored “Old School America” in 2004, hoping to create a Renaissance in the civic, religious and family principles of the World War II generation.

This is the foundation of his presentation on how to turn Maine back into a Republican state, in which people are proud of being self-reliant rather than a state in which most of the voters are dependent on government jobs or programs.

“I was fortunate to grow up in Maine at a time when parents, teachers, coaches and neighbors worked together to raise children with an emphasis on common sense and common culture. I received a wonderful education in the Lewiston public schools. I was privileged to grow up at a time in history when Americans were moving forward while also preserving the great civic, religious and family traditions of our past,” he said.

“Maine students,” according to Slovenski, “are better served by principles than programs. We need more emphasis on principles and less emphasis on programs.”
