RUMFORD – Catherine Calef, a longtime quilting teacher in the greater Rumford area, will soon move to Connecticut to be near her family.
Calef was instrumental in encouraging the craft of quilting to the area. She began teaching quilting through night school and Log Cabin Crafts in 1979. Many area residents have taken classes from her since then.
The Ladies of the Lake Quilters will hold an open house/farewell tea in Calef’s honor from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, at the Virgin Memorial Chapel in the Virginia section of Rumford. Anyone who knows her is invited.
