PARIS – Village Harmony, a youth choir from Vermont, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at the South Paris Congregational Church.

Village Harmony includes singers ages 13 to 18 from across New England and as far away as California and North Carolina. They are known for their “sheer agility, vitality and power.”

The ensemble of 27 young singers will be led by Village Harmony founder Larry Gordon, with two co-directors, North Carolina choir leader Jane Peppler and Vermont dance musician and Irish music specialist Brendan Taaffe. The voices are augmented in many numbers by a band of fiddles, cellos, clarinets, trumpet and keyboard.

The choir will present a varied program, including Mexican mariachi songs, which are based on a blend of Spanish and Indian music; Yiddisha and Klezmer music; and Bulgarian village songs.

The program will also feature arrangements of traditional ballads inspired by the Irish a cappella trio, The Voice Squad.

The concert will conclude with movements of the late 16th century “Mass in the Fourth Mode” by the Spanish composer Victoria.

Admission will be at the door. For more information, call 743-2437.
