AUGUSTA – Discover Card is awarding more than $1 million in scholarships to high school juniors as part of the Discover Card Tribute Award Scholarship program.
Winners were selected from a pool of more than 4,500 applicants. While students must maintain a minimum 2.75 cumulative grade point average to qualify, they must also demonstrate accomplishments in three areas: special talents, leadership and community service, while successfully overcoming a roadblock or challenge.
The $2,500 area state scholarship recipients are Meaghan E. Mingo, Gray, Cheverus High School; Nicholas M. Daggett, Litchfield, Oak Hill High School; Augusta M. Hahnel, New Gloucester, Gray-New Gloucester High School.
The winners in each state go on to compete for nine national scholarships worth $25,000.
