WATERFORD – The Oxford County Republican Committee will meet Tuesday, May 10, at the Wilkins House, Plummer Hill Road. The Wilkins House is off Route 35 by the Lake House.

The social hour will be at 5:30 p.m., with a lasagna dinner served at 6:30. The dinner is $6.50 and is sponsored by the Hannibal Hamlin Women’s Club.

The speaker will be Randy Bumps, Maine Republican Party chairman.

Norm Ferguson, coordinator for the People’s Veto Referendum, will have petitions and information regarding the effort. All interested residents are invited to attend.

Class gathering

MEXICO – Stephens High School class of 1956 will have a gathering at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, at Far East Restaurant. Anyone who has questions should call Muriel Shurtleff at 562-7550.

Mexico class

RUMFORD – Classmates of the Mexico High School class of 1954 will meet for lunch at noon on Saturday, May 14, at the River Valley Grill on Exchange Street.

MEXICO – SAD 43 kindergarten screening will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, May 10, 11 and 12, at the superintendent’s office. Those who have a child who will be five years before Oct. 15 should call Rumford Elementary School or Mexico Elementary School to preregister.

Extension meet

PERU – The Peru Extension Homemakers will meet at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 14, at the Peru School with the Swift River group. The topic will be “Identity Theft” with Wendy Pollock as speaker. Peru members are to bring articles for the nursing home basket. Lunch is potluck. Swift River group will bring dessert. Edythe Porter has the mystery.

Student visits

RUMFORD – Virginia Elementary School students will visit the schools they will attend next year on Monday, May 16. K-T1-1 will visit from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. and grades two, three and four will visit from 9:45 to 11 a.m.

JAY – The Red Hat Mommas of Western Maine met at LaFleur’s Restaurant on April 27 with 38 members attending. Red hat pins were won by Linda Petrie, Geri Kelley and Andrea Gurney. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, May 25, at the Carriage House, Route 4. The dinner will cost $12.50. The money needs to be given to Isabelle Duguay by Monday, May 16. Meet in the back of the Dixfield Post Office and plan to leave by 5:15 p.m.

RUMFORD – Mexico native Monica Wood will talk about her latest novel, “Any Bitter Thing,” a top 10 pick from Booksense, set in a fictional Western Maine town, at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at the Rumford Public Library.
