LEWISTON – The National Association of Retired Federal Employees will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, at the Ramada Inn when Rep. Mike Michaud will address Social Security issues.

Michaud grew up in Medway and worked at the same paper mill, Great Northern Paper Co., where his father and grandfather worked. He is a member of PACE Local 1-0037. He lives in East Millinocket and is remodeling his late grandmother’s home, which he recently purchased.

Michaud first ran for and was elected to the Maine House of Representatives in 1980, going on to serve seven consecutive terms. In 1994, he won his first bid for the Maine Senate. In 2002, Michaud was elected 2nd District representative to serve Maine. He is the first Franco-American to be elected to federal office from Maine.

Michaud is involved in the Eastern Maine Development Corp., the Maine Partnership and a variety of local, regional and statewide civic and economic development organizations.

Plans for the meeting were made at a recent session of the executive board at the home of Vi Dumais. Attending were President Sue Stetson, Mike and Flo Bohunicky, Jayne Bickford, Doris Hamel and Therese Baumer.

Lunch will be served at noon followed by the program and a short business meeting.

The organization is for current and retired federal employees and it is always looking for new members. The local chapter, Androscoggin Valley 1804, meets the fourth Tuesday of the month September through May at the Ramada Inn, Lewiston.

Retirees, whether state or federal, who are affected by WEP or GPO, might want to attend the meeting. If so, they must contact Sue Stetson at 784-9438 before Monday, March 28.
